Tori Spelling A Gay Icon?

Tori Spelling has declared herself a gay icon prior to the release of her upcoming movie Kiss The Bride. The former Beverly Hills 90210 star hopes to charm her gay fans into seeing the film, which debuts on Friday in select US cities.

In an interview with Reuters, Spelling declared herself a ‘huge fan of the gays.’

“They love me; I love them,” she said. “They consider me kind of a gay icon, which they’ve labeled me as.”

In the film she, and her co-star James O’Shea, play a couple who are about to tie the knot. Little does Spelling’s character know, however, that her husband-to-be had a homosexual affair with a high school buddy. The gay friend, played by Philipp Karner, learns about the wedding and tries to convince the groom that marrying a woman would be a mistake.

The film has been doing the rounds at gay film festivals here in Australia and has been well received. Her role in Kiss The Bride comes after her appearance in another gay film – Trick – in 1999. According to Spelling, the response she got after Trick was so overwhelming that she considered it “kind of a coup” to be able to make another gay flick.

So is Tori Spelling really a ‘gay icon’? Hmmm… well, she’s always been a visible advocate of gay rights and she did become an ordained minister just so she could wed two gay fans. Yeah, we think she qualifies.
