Cynthia Nixon Ready For Rebellion
The long awaited Sex And The City film premiered in London on Monday evening, which is a strange choice of location, given that New York is often regarded as one of the series’ main characters.
Critiques of the film have been mixed. One film critic from The Times snuck in and he gave the movie two stars, saying that he was unmoved, but all the women around him were completely immersed. A review in the UK’s Daily Telegraph said that it was “coarse, sentimental and outrageously materialistic: just as we had hoped it would be”.
Meanwhile Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda in the film, has been chatting to media about her lesbian partner Christine Marinoni, and of how much she wants to marry her.
”[Marriage] is something my girlfriend is interested in and it was not something my [ex-boyfriend] ever was. I think that to get married to her would be a little act of rebellion. It’s like if you’ve never had the vote and then you get it you’re going to run out there and vote.
“I always avoided marriage in the past and was very wary of it. I felt like it was potentially a trap. People sometimes want the party, the gifts, and the public celebration of this big love – they’re excited about that rather than the life commitment. So I always stayed clear of it.”
Rumours are that the pair will wed later this year in a low key ceremony somewhere.
Sex And The City premieres in Australia June 5.
