The Cho Show - Coming Soon!
For those of us in the gay community who love a good laugh, the name Margaret Cho springs to mind as one of the funniest gals in the business. Margaret has blown away audiences worldwide with her outlandish, brash, honest and often offensive stage shows. Earlier this year Margaret thrilled sell out audiences in Sydney and Melbourne during Mardi Gras 30th birthday celebrations. Now she is making her second attempt on the small screen alongside Vh1 and Beyond Productions in Sydney.
Titled simply The Cho Show, this seven part series delves into a day in the life of Margaret and her troupe of gay stylists, her family and her midget sidekick. The show is still in development stages as we speak but I was lucky enough to witness the first pilot from the series this week and let me tell you this show is going to be huge! Alongside her bizarre cast of friends are her beautiful Korean parents who seem to star in every episode. The dynamics between Cho, her parents and her beautifiers is total camp gold.
The first episode sees Margaret invited to the Korean of The Year Awards to receive top honours. After a shopping expedition for traditional Korean outfits, which sees her stylists battling it out to get her the perfect threads, her parents start pressuring her to have a baby. Poor Margaret freaks out on how she will be perceived by a very straight, bland Korean audience at the ceremony. This show is very quick paced and filled with gay jokes that will have you in stitches.
No doubt future episodes of the show are guaranteed to get stronger and funnier, so as the series draws closer to completing keep your eyes peeled on Vh1 for the premiere of The Cho Show.
