With the indisputable international success of Sex And The City – The Movie, we should all start bracing ourselves for more big screen versions of now defunct TV shows. The next cab off the rank it seems is Friends.
The Daily Mail – a sometimes questionable source – has claimed that the Friends movie is now in the pipeline and it’s about 18 months away.
They claim that Jennifer Aniston has been the Kim Cattrall of the Friends crew, holding up plans to make the film. Their source has said that Aniston has, up until now, deemed herself too famous to reprise the role of Rachel Green. But seeing what Sex And The City – The Movie has done for Sarah Jessica Parker has changed her mind.
The film is to star all of the original ast members – Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer.
The source told the Daily Mail, “The box office success of Sex And The City has really got their wheels spinning about how a Friends film could be just as big, if done right. Timing and the script are really important, but now that Courteney and Jen both have production companies, they can potentially get very involved in those decisions.”
Hmmm… We wonder if the film could possibly work without a laugh track.
