Gay Men Die Younger
Gay men die 20 years younger, a US report claims. And the reason, according to author Joseph White, is ‘the rampant spread of HIV/AIDS’. But White also attributes the life expectancy to gay lifestyle choices, citing drug use and suicide as other contributing factors.
White closes his article by saying that gay men have a greater mortality risk than smokers and the obese. The gay community has expressed outrage at the comments and says White’s article is based on flawed research. But White indicates that he’s just taking a realistic look at an issue that is ‘still too sensitive’.
While critics have disregarded the report as unfounded and offensive, the website the article appears on, Insure.com, provides quotes for more than 200 insurers across the US, and is said to be a leading insurance company website.
Insure.com have refused to remove the article, in which White concludes that maybe insurance companies should charge gay men ‘elevated rates’.
Timothy Kincaid of website Box Turtle Bulletin says he has been investigating the claims made in White’s article and says that some of the research was conducted by American psychologist Paul Cameron, a psychologist who in the past has linked homosexuality with paedophilia and approved of Nazi policies towards homosexuality.
Kincaid believes much of the information to be obviously flawed and misleading, and yet Insure.com’s CEO Robert Bland has come out in written support of White’s findings. Reports yesterday from PinkNews.co.uk indicate that White’s misleading article is in line with gay men in the US and United Kingdom often being unfairly treated. Being sent for unnecessary HIV testing, and having incorrect insurance information given to them.
