Lily Allen and Elton John are both stars who are well known for saying what they think. Lily’s made many a controversial statement for such a youngster, calling Americans “backward”, Bob Geldof “a sanctimonious prat” and publicly telling media to “fuck off you cunts” while on stage.
When it comes to making outrageous, inflammatory public statements Elton’s right up there with Boy George. Not too long ago he told John Howard “Up yours!” over the issue of gay marriage in Australia.
So the decision to put Elton and Lily together to present last night’s GQ Men of the Year Awards at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden was a risky one.
Things started well, but as the night progressed, Lily sipped champagne onstage, and started to get a bit tipsy. She was half way through announcing “the most important part of the night” when Elton butted in and said, “What? Are you going to have another drink?”
Lily retorted, “Fuck off Elton. I am 40 years younger than you and have my whole life ahead of me!”
According to the UK’s Daily Mail the room fell silent, and Elton, not to be outdone, said, “I could still snort you under the table.”
“Fuck off,” Lily snapped again. “I don’t know what you are talking about.”
The Daily Mail say that Elton was seen having “stern words” with Lily in the wings between awards.
