Style, Flair And A Political Conscience
Fran Drescher may have style and flair, but she’s also got a political conscience too. She’s another celebrity who is getting behind gay marriage in California. According to E! she’s putting on a cocktail party with her ex-husband, Peter Marc Jacobson, to raise cash for Equality California, who are fighting Proposition 8, the November ballot initiative that seeks to ban gay marriage in the state. The event is expected to raise at least $10,000 for the cause.
While speaking to E!, Drescher light-heartedly joked with the interviewer saying, “I don’t know if you realise this, but I’m a gay icon. But even if I weren’t, I’m a political activist who believes in preserving the American dream which is tolerance of diversity and the separation of church and state… It’s simply un-American not to be tolerant of different lifestyles. If you wanna live in a single-minded, religious-based country you’re in the wrong place.”
Drescher and her ex-husband are still good friends and creative partners too. He told E! “It’s not about being gay or straight… If two people are in love and they want to be married, they should have the right to do this.”
