Fun In The Sun - Not Worth It In Dubai

In Dubai, two foreign women have been imprisoned for a month for “kissing and fondling each other” and engaging in “indecent acts” on Al Mamzar public beach in April this year.

AFP reports that the two women, a 30 year old Lebanese woman and a 36 year old Bulgarian national, have had their sentence upheld by the Dubai Court of Appeal. Both women pleaded not guilty to charges of kissing, groping each other and “indecent acts in public.” After they are released, they’ll both be deported.

According to police records, the witness who dobbed them in to authorities said, “I called the police because it was indecent especially as there were some families around.”

Meanwhile, a straight British couple are currently looking at a possible prison sentence followed by deportation after being accused of having sex on a public beach. Their case has been adjourned for the time being and the couple are out on bail.

While Dubai has thousands of Western residents and tourists, it maintains a conservative social order, repressing homosexuality, as well as sex outside of marriage.
