You Are Bad For The Environment

In his end of year address to Vatican staff, Pope Benedict XVI has stressed that saving people from homosexual or transsexual behaviour is as important as saving the rainforests.

A translation from the National Catholic Reporter quotes the Pope as saying, “[The church] must defend not only the earth, water and air as gifts of creation that belong to all. It must also defend the human person against its own destruction. What’s needed is something like a ‘human ecology,’ understood in the right sense. It’s not simply an outdated metaphysics if the church speaks of the nature of the human person as man and woman, and asks that this order of creation be respected.”

He goes on to talk about the importance of having faith in creation, and rejected the idea of ‘gender’.

“That which is often expressed and understood by the term ‘gender’ in the end amounts to the self-emancipation of the human person from creation and from the Creator. Human beings want to do everything by themselves, and to control exclusively everything that regards them. But in this way, the human person lives against the truth, against the Creator Spirit. Yes, the tropical forests merit our protection, but the human being as a creature merits no less protection.”

It’s interesting that the Pope said nothing about the issue of over-population and the impact that’s having on the environment.

The Pope also went on to defend ‘traditional marriage’, Catholic sexual morality and even World Youth Day, a lavish event that cost NSW taxpayers some $89 million.

“Australia had never seen so many people from every continent as it did during World Youth Day, even on the occasion of the Olympics. Before, there was fear that such a massive turnout of youth would disrupt the public order, paralyze traffic, make daily life more difficult, provoke violence and lead to drug use. All that turned out to be unfounded.

“It was a festival of joy – a joy that, eventually, swept up even the reluctant. In the end, no one felt disturbed.”

Ah Benedict, speak for yourself.

I hate the whole "love the sinner, hate the sin" concept of the Catholic Church! And it's true what they say about certain other intimate acts mentioned. As long as these acts are heterosexual, both parties are still considered virgins and pure and shit. It is still frowned upon, but not persecuted like two people in a loving homosexual relationship for many years are! What is the view on women in homosexual relationships from a Jewish standpoint? I hear that it was/is okay for a married woman to have an affair with another woman. Is this complete and utter bollocks? If it's true, why can't a man have a connection and relationship with another man whilst in heterosexual wedlock?

Marriage for Jews is a mitzvah. To interfere with marriage would break God's commandment. Adultery goes against the Ten Commandments, regardless of sexuality. Orthodox Judaism frowns upon lesbianism, (because it interferes with the matri-lineal heritage of Jewish inheritance/identity) but because same-sex sexual intimacy is described in male-engendered terms in the Torah, lesbianism from a Jewish perspective is taboo, but not actually condemned under written law. Women have more 'spiritual wisdom' (binah in Hebrew) than men in Judaism, so lesbianism can be seen only as a distancing from 'teshuva' (return to God) not as an actual transgression. under strict Orthodox Jewish Law male homosexual sex must be spiritually corrected with the mikvah (cleansing through immersion in 'living water') by the two gay boys in question because the spillage of sperm between two men results in the death of a potential life, (all death in Judaism must be washed away--that is why if a Jew touches a dead body he/she must mikvah) not actually because of the gay aspect of the sex itself. Reform Judaism accepts homosexual Jews without question. Reminder: Jewish Law is only binding upon Jews, nobody else.

As a Bi Catholic, WYD was extremely important to me. Ive attended 2 previously, Toronto 02 and Cologne 05. Just as we ask the general public not to label the whole queer community for some things, the church shouldn't be labelled as a whole either because of old school teachings. Many of us pray the church will catch up with its teachings.

Well as far as I'm concerned we should be out there getting our voices heard against the Pope and against the Roman Catholic Church in general...Let's not just stop there, most organised religion is simply plain out evil in their discrimination against women and Queers and others who may be deemed as outsiders. Fuck the Pope! Fuck the Vatican! Fuck Organised Religion altogether!

Perhaps the pop Ben should do a clean sweep of the many gay bars in Vatican City and Italy. He is sure to come across his own flock tilting on bar stools and tickling their fancies. Perhaps he should include in his next sermon, how to successfully bury your Catholic head in the sand and fool no one.
