We didn’t think Elton John could get any gayer. We were wrong. According to the Daily Record the singer has just launched a range of crystal-encrusted iPods as a fundraiser for his HIV charity – the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

The iPods are limited edition and come in at $910 (AUD) a pop. Elton had a say in the players’ design, and his signature has even been lasered on the back of every single one. Each iPod has colour co-ordinated Swarovski crystals embedded into it by advanced laser technology and only 100 are available in each colour.

“Elton does not usually put his name to a product but this is exactly the kind of thing he loves. It’s extravagant and glamorous just like him. And, as everyone knows, his AIDS charity is very close to his heart,” says a spokesperson for the product.

Even though England is in the grip of the financial crisis, we’re sure the iPods will run right out the door.

Amazingly, Elton has already raised over $227 million for the charity.

Elton John recently ignited debate when he said that in his opinion “there’s too much technology available” and that the world should switch off the internet for five years to allow people to “create stuff”.
