Lambert Kissing His Career Goodbye?

Gene Simmons, famous for being part of the make up wearing rockband KISS, believes that American Idol runner up Adam Lambert has killed his career by coming out of the closet.

In an interview two weeks ago with Fox Philadelphia he said that Lambert should stop talking about his sexual preferences.

“We, America, the rest of the world, really don’t care. I mean, if the story becomes ‘I prefer farm animals to,’ you know, who cares? Be quiet about what it is you do indoors and go out there and sing.”

In a recent interview with AOL Simmons was challenged about his previous comments about Lambert.

“I don’t think I’ve been talking smack at all. In fact, if anything, I’ve been soft-peddling. He’s enormously talented, best talent American Idol has had, but I think he killed his career because now the conversation is not about his talent but about his sexual preference. He’s done. You’re forcing people to deal with issues they may not be interested in. Life is unfair, and the masses don’t all live in L.A. They live in Wisconsin and Nebraska, and you’re on crack if you think the same rules apply there.

“My advice is still the same, shut the fuck up, just sing and let people say whatever they want. But I do wish him the best because he’s got all the talent in the world. If only the world was not homophobic, but it is. I would be the first one to vote for equal rights for gay women and men, and get the church and the state to stop telling everybody how to lead their lives, but do I think he’s killed his career? Oh, in an instant. I hope I’m completely wrong. I hope he becomes the next Beatles and proves me wrong.”

In time we will see if Simmons is right, but at least any success Lambert has now will be much more authentic and rewarding.

Lets just wait till Lambert's album comes out, and then we will see. I think he's fantastic. Simmons can suck it. He's just lucky Kiss is cool.

I wish I could figure out why Lambert is so attractive to me, it's not my usual at all. He makes me want to dye my hair black again.

Opposite for me. He fits my type (alternative-y)... but I dunno, just doesn't do it for me. I think it's cause he seems too nice. For some reason I go for arseholes :p We'll just have to wait and see whether his coming out will have an impact on his sales. Hope not...

that's half my point that he should have waited. we will never know if coming out affected his sales, because he has no pre-coming out sales to compare it too.

If you think about it Gene Simmons is only looking out for Adam Lambert; if he did not like Adam or did not care for him somewhat he would not let him self be photographed with him on stage.

I think half of your talent is shaped by your experiences, your spirit & your drive. Our homosexuality is an experience that shapes our creativity, expression, our resolve to forge ahead artistically & use our talents to highlight our struggles in life: so I don't think Gene Simmons can discount Adam's sexualiy as being irrelevant to how he sings, presents himself on-stage, etc. I know myself my writing has more clarity & depth when I draw upon my experiences: experiences stemming from the fact I've encountered homophobia, isolation & a desire to express the discovery, acceptance & celebration of my being gay. I think as an artist you owe a duty to your fan-base to be transparent & allow them to see the source of your creativity. Adam's homosexuality can be used as a vehicle for him to reach the heights of his musical *preferences* (sarcastic dig at Simmons' remark)....do I make sense? Like this very much. What else can you say when Asherbella has put it all together so perfectly?
