Dannii Versus Danyl?

Dannii Minogue found herself in a spot of bother due to comments she made about a contestant’s sexuality recently on The X Factor.

The Metro reports that contestant Danyl Johnson had changed the lyrics to the song And I Am Telling You (I’m Not Going), so that he was singing about a woman, not a man. Afterwards Dannii said to the singer, “If you’re to believe everything you read in the papers, then you didn’t need to change the gender references in the song.”

The comments sparked a storm in an online tea cup, with members of online forums calling for her sacking, saying that her comments were “bang out of order”.

Simon Cowell spoke publicly in support of Dannii, saying that she was “the last person in the world who would ever say anything offensive”.

Dannii apologised to Johnson publicly on Twitter, saying: “I adore Danyl and meant no offence. I’m sorry if I have caused any harm. I spoke to Danyl straight after the show last night and he wasn’t offended or upset by my comments and knew exactly what I was saying.”

Johnson, who for the record is bisexual, also tweeted: “I’m not ashamed. Dannii didn’t mean any harm. We are all smiles.”
