Elton John Hits The Dancefloor
Elton John is reported to be working on a dance album with P’Nau and Empire of the Sun’s Nick Littlemore. Spinner reports that the album has “sparked a furious bidding war between labels eager to release the material”.
The Sun quoted an ‘inside source’ as saying: “Elton says he’s writing his most exciting new stuff for years – possibly decades. Working with P’Nau has got the creative juices flowing again. They have got a load of big companies sniffing around.”
In an interview in 2008 with Time Out Sydney, Littlemore said that Elton John first heard of P’Nau when he was sitting in Sydney traffic, listening to Triple J. According to the article, Elton “immediately sent his husband David Furnish out to buy up as many copies of [their] album as he could find, subsequently declaring it to be the greatest record he’d heard in ten years”.
“Yeah, uncle Elton’s great,” Littlemore told Time Out. “He’s the star, he’s the light – he just brings us through. And he talks so quickly, he’s just so switched on it’s incredible. I have to record most of our conversations so I can hear them back later and take in what he said. We’re having lunch with Elton on Friday in his castle.”
Elton and his partner David Furnish recently auctioned off a number of items from their own personal wardrobes to raise funds for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Entitled ‘Out Of The Closet 2009’, the sale took place in Covent Garden over the weekend and featured clothes, sunglasses, luggage and belts from Versace, Dior, Prada, McQueen, D&G and Jean Paul Gaultier.
It’s the fifth time Elton’s hosted such a fundraiser. The last one in 2002 sold about 15,000 items and raised £400,000 (A$713,473) for the foundation.
