Gay Marriage Threat To Creation, Says Pope
The pope has again come out against gay marriage. Tying the topic in with the world’s environmental issues, the leader of the Catholic church says gay marriage ‘endangers’ the human species.
Addressing diplomats in his yearly wrap-up of events, Pope Benedict referred specifically, it seems, to a number of countries and communities that have legalised gay marriage recently, including Mexico City and Portugal.
“Creatures differ from one another and can be protected, or endangered, in different ways, as we know from daily experience. One such attack comes from laws or proposals which, in the name of fighting discrimination, strike at the biological basis of the difference between the sexes. I am thinking, for example, of certain countries in Europe or North and South America,” said the Pope to diplomats from over 170 countries.
On what seems a more sensible note, 82-year-old also told those gathered that ‘indifference’ toward the issues of climate change and conflict was unacceptable.
“I share the growing concern caused by economic and political resistance to combating the degradation of the environment,” said the pontiff.
And the Pope’s solution?
“For man, the path to be taken cannot be determined by caprice or willfulness, but must rather correspond to the structure willed by the Creator.”
