In a recent interview with MTV, comedian Sarah Silverman mouthed off about the issue of gay marriage in America, describing it as “embarrassing”. She said that she refuses to get married until gays and lesbians can do so, and that anybody who believes in equal rights should follow suit.
“Not only would I not get married, it actually actively bums me out that anyone who is for equal rights would get married right now,” said the star of The Sarah Silverman Program.
“There’s nothing different between that and joining a country club that doesn’t allow blacks or Jews back then…Who needs to get married that bad that they’ll be a part of a club like that?”
The interviewer then reflected on how we’ll all look back on this era in fifty years time and feel ashamed of ourselves.
“Fifty years from now!” she scoffed. “This is embarrassing. It’s embarrassing.”
