US Republican Senator Roy Asburn has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence after leaving a gay nightclub. CBS13.com has reported that sources reported the Senator drinking at Faces, the gay nightclub in Midtown Sacramento, California.
Senator Asburn, a father of four, was driving from the bar with a male passenger in the car at the time of the traffic stop. Senator Asburn had a blood alcohol level of higher than 0.08 percent, and was taken to Sacramento County Jail before being released on $1445 AUD bail.
Senator Asburn has a history of voting against every gay rights law put past the State Senate, including things like Recognising Out-Of-State Same-Sex Marriages and Expanding Anti-Discrimination Laws.
“I am deeply sorry for my actions and offer no excuse for my poor judgement,” Senator Ashburn said in a released statement.
“I am also truly sorry for the impact this incident will have on those who support and trust me — my family, my constituents, my friends and my colleagues in the Senate.”
