He was just 18 when he starred on UK TV’s gayest drama Queer as Folk as not-so-innocent schoolboy Nathan – now he’s 30 and playing a lead role as a violent Harley-riding gang-member on US telly.

Charlie Hunnam’s portrayal of gun-toting gang vice-pres Jax in biker drama Sons of Anarchy has proven so popular that a third series goes into production this week.

The show, by the writer of The Shield and the producer of The Sopranos, has seen Hunnam finally achieve the American success he moved to Hollywood for in 2002, reports The Independent.

He’s had to put in serious gym time, grow his hair, and learn how to ride a Harley-Davidson for the badboy role.

I only ever watched the American QaF.
UK version any good?

@ Jimmy I loved it cause it was set in my home town...... not sure it'd be considered to be that good for other people though

The second season got weird. The first season is almost identical.

I enjoyed it, it's fairly similar to the US version but they did it a lot more risky stuff than the toned-down US recreation (their Justin was 15 rather than 17, so the relationship is so very wrong, and they kill off their version of Ted)

It's created by Russell T Davies who went on to resurrect Doctor Who, so yeah, excellent.

That said, the US QAF is one of the better UK rip-off series.

i really loved the uk version.. The second series does go a little askew but the first is excellent.. It took me a while to warm to the US version, but it makes the uk one look a little cheap when comparing them..

love the US version as the characters were more rounded than the UK. russell davies was a consultant on the US version and i think it was a chance to perfect his work. charlie is HOT!

I preferred the UK version.

US one is ok, just feels less real.

I saw the UK one first and I'll always prefer it to the US version (although Cagney, or is it Lacey, makes it worth the effort.

Who would'a guessed that Charlie would grow up to be hot?

I love the UK version. Its grittier and realer and the actors actually look like homos you may even see walking down the street and not just some Abercrombie and Felch The Dog catalogue

hmm he is still looking good, he was the only hot one on the uk one, they are all bloody ugly on that series.

Charlie Hannum is certainly hot in the QAF UK series. I don't know too much about the series 2 from the UK.
Also Australian Peter O'brien was in the UK series.

Nana said both series were a poor copy of Australia's Number 96 yet she enjoyed them both immensely!
given #96 in no longer on TV.
