A new airline in Thailand has employed six transsexual air hostesses, and hopes its tran-friendly employment policy catches on.

PC Air will take off soon, and its boss is expecting several more trans staff will join its crew. Over 100 transpeople applied for jobs with the airline.

“I think these people can have many careers – not just in the entertainment business – and many of them have a dream to be an air hostess,” manager Peter Chan told the UK’s Telegraph. “I just made their dream come true.

“Our society has changed. It’s evolution. I’m a pioneer and I’m sure there will be other organisations following my idea.”

Some Thai ‘Ladyboys’ have full surgery for gender reassignment, some do not. PC Air did not make proof of sexual reassignment a criteria for the job – the aircrew applicants just needed the necessary language skills and good customer service credentials.

Transsexual air hosties will wear a gold-coloured “third sex” name badge to help passengers and immigration staff identify them.
