On Saturday night in San Francisco, GLAAD honoured the media’s most outstanding images of the LGBT community at the GLAAD Media Awards. Advocates, allies and celebrities joined to celebrate the people and stories that are moving Americans toward equality for all.
But amongst all the glitz, it was Kim Cattrall’s unfiltered and emotional speech that stood out from the rest. Even though she appeared slightly intoxicated, everyone’s favourite Sex and the City girl started off her speech with her trademark razor wit, telling the audience that she considering becoming a lesbian after hearing the rousing speeches that proceeded hers, “but that got fucked up after the Cirque du Soleil guy did his thing.”
She continued her speech with great comedic vigour, saying “as many of you know, I played a gay man on a very popular television show”, and comparing the failed conversion attempts of the anti-gay movement the equivalent of trying to make “Will Smith ghetto or Charlie Sheen sober. It’s just a waste of everyone’s time.”
But it was Cattrall’s emotional closing remarks that really hit the mark with us, talking about the future where all are accepted as human beings.
Check out the full video below, and let us know what you think of Cattrall’s hilarious speech.
