Lady Gaga has lashed out against Twitter users trending the hash tag #GagasCareerDiedWithJamey to mock a gay fan of hers who took his own life last year.
The hash tag refers to Jamey Rodemeyer, a fourteen year old boy from New York who allegedly took his own life after years of homophobia-related bullying.
Last week the singer, who now has almost 19 million followers on Twitter, was made aware of the trending topic and swiftly posted a tweet to defend Jamey:

She went on to say:

Gaga fans then responded by defending her reputation via Twitter, posting tweets of disgust in reply to the recent trend.
“#GagasCareerDiedWithJamey is one of the most disgusting things that’s ever been a TT. I can’t even believe people would make such a joke…” said @Greg1217.
Since Rodemeyer’s death in September last year, Gaga trended the hash tag #MakeALawForJamey and has met with President Barack Obama to launch a national campaign to make bullying illegal.
She also teamed up with her mother to create a new anti-bullying campaign called the Born This Way Foundation. A countdown on its official website shows it’s only days away from launching – check it out here.
Tributes to Jamie Rodemeyer came in from across the world in the days following his death. A beautiful one is shown below.
