We’ve heard Madonna’s new album MDNA in full – and were pleasantly surprised by the range of stand-out tracks including cheeky dancefloor-fillers and dramatic ballads.
We think she’s back to the top of her game after an unsuccessful experimentation (read: ripping off) with urban music on Hard Candy. Now Madge has returned to the dancefloor with a club friendly collection of what Madonna does best: throbbing dance tracks that make you bob your head with the beat.
Sure, there’s a few ballads thrown in that don’t quite hit the emotional mark, but when she sets out to make you move, Madonna never fails.
As Billboard magazine puts it: “Not only does Madonna take us to the club with MDNA, she exhausts us, drains us, and confides in us.”
The album – her 12th in a stellar career of ups and downs but mostly ups – is out this Friday, and a few tracks and previews are now on her YouTube channel, including this confessional piece written by herself and Martin Solveig. Listen to I Fucked Up below…
Superstar includes backing vocals from her daughter Lourdes – here’s a preview listen:
Gang Bang’s explicit lyrics will apparently see it omitted or censored on the ‘clean’ version of the MDNA album. Madonna says “it’s the ultimate revenge song”…
She’s also previewed a new ballad Falling Free, co-written by her brother-in-law Henry, who also co-wrote several past Madonna songs including Don’t Tell Me. The album closer is being described as the saddest song she’s ever given us.
There’s a whole heap more preview clips on Madonna’s YouTube channel here.
It seems the album’s lead single Give me All Your Luvin’, co-starring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. isn’t exactly representative of the rest of MDNA. But we still like it. What do you think?
