In no fewer than 78 countries around the world, homosexual acts are still illegal.

And in five of them, the maximum penalty is death.

What if it were illegal for you to be you? Imagine if it were illegal to have blue eyes or be under 5ft 10ins and if breaking this law meant you could go to prison or face attack or even death.

A hard-hitting new ad campaign from the UK imagines how ridiculous – and harrowing – the world would be in other personal traits, like baldness, age or even eye colour.

Produced by the Kaleidoscope Trust, the campaign has been launched to coincide with Pride London this weekend, and is getting attention from British MPs and celebs alike.

British human rights minister Jeremy Browne MP says the video brings home very vividly how it must feel to be singled out and abused just for being who you are.”

Imagine if it were illegal for you to be you…

Produced by the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, the purple regions on the map shown below – and larger here – indicate where in the world homosexuality is still punishable by law.

This says everything I wanted to say in the past....What if the world said"that being straight was illegal?"

I knew I was 'not right'growing because I new I would get the snot and several other bodily fluids kicked out of me....I learnt fear and disguise, learnt how to blend, knew what I could and could not say, did not talk to family or friends about me personally..... that is not living...it is fearing.

That is what "the many" want us to live like!

*I believe that we make our own heart/love choices in our life
*I believe that it takes many people of varying faiths, of varying perspectives, or varying orientations to represent a true perspective of humanity
*I believe that we make our own directions of life....... and "shame" (said with love of course) on those who wish to predispose their convictions on any individuals journey
*I believe that we are brought into this world to make a difference.... coming into conformity brings no growth.

I am thankful that so many have not had to live with fear in their heart and soul. I am proud that I have found my true centre....and that I like myself despite what others want to impose on me. FUCK THEM! Not with my "áppendage"!

Bigotry comes in many forms....hiding behind religion/faith/belief is cowardice in disguise...... no matter what flavour one believes in.

To all the gods that be....I would hate for them (those that hate difference) to live and feel like that! That would not be humane to say the least. The Christian Dieties preached loved and acceptance. The Buddha teaches compassion. The other wordly faiths preach to improve yourself for a higher cause. The atheists do what is good because they fear no repercussions in an afterlife.

Fear has no part of any life. Just joy and being. Ask any grandparent! They will tell you what joy is!

Blessings to you all... Live Love Give

I'm always amazed at how much effort and energy is put into activism for marriage equality and we do practically zilch in assisting and supporting the liberation of other gays and lesbians who are legally and culturally oppressed and persecuted around the world.

Sorry I think that saving a person from execution or extreme persecution because of their sexual orientation is more important than marriage equality.

Mate...

I totally understand your perspective........

But I also believe I can only effectively change those in or near my backyard....

I have empathy and understanding for our brothers and sisters in other countries but I cannot effectively be of any support to them. I believe I can make a difference here and here is where I make a stand.

Actively: I will not travel to any of these countries and support their 'tourist industry" along with other minor military dictatorships in the the south pacific....

Actively: I will email and support others where possible....

BUT our backyard needs alot of cleaning.....we have issues close to home in Australia that require attention in many arenas....not just gay rights.

I think it is a matter of where we choose to put our efforts..... these choices are our own and not subject to other opinions.

So I agree, there are many issues on the world plate for consideration....... I choose here at this point of time and I agree that there are many that need support. We stand a better chance to support when we have a sturdy base to work from.

Hugs to all

John
