New audio overhearing glamourgirl Paris Hilton’s off-the-cuff remarks about gay guys is a real shocker.

Recorded a couple of weeks ago in a New York taxi, she was speaking to her gay male friend about Grindr. The 31-year-old’s views are certainly attention-grabbing, sparking outrage as they were leaked overnight by salacious gossip site Radar Online.

Reacting to her gay mate explaining all-male hook-up app to her, Hilton’s reaction was swift and damning disgust.

“Gay guys are the horniest people in the world…. I would be so scared if I were a gay guy. You’ll like, die of AIDS.”

Many comments we’ve seen online about Hilton about the leaking audio this morning indicate her remarks confirm the worst fears of those who’d always expected very little worthwhile from the scrawny attention-seeker.

But some have been defensive: “If she really hated gays would she hang out with one?” typed a Hilton fan on YouTube. “The comment made is like a sister telling her brother he’s disgusting even though they’re good buddies. It’s all in good humor. Her friend was clearly not offended. You can honestly measure a friendship’s strength when friends don’t offend each other with this kind of humour.”

The socialite’s people have also swept to her defence. “Paris Hilton’s comments were to express that it is dangerous for anyone to have unprotected sex that could lead to a life threatening disease,” says their official response to the leaked tape. “The conversation became heated, after a close gayfriend told her in a cab ride, a story about a gay man who has AIDS and is knowingly having unprotected sex. He also discussed a website that encourages random sex by gay men with strangers. As she was being shown the website her comments were in reference to those people promoting themselves on the site.

“The cab driver who recorded this only provided a portion of the conversation. It was not her intent to make any derogatory comments about all gays. Paris Hilton is a huge supporter of the gay community and would never purposefully make any negative statements about anyone’s sexual orientation.”

What do you think?

Hmm, you can beat your drum and repeat that 'lol gay men are all infected and diseased lol it's funny when someone brings up such a serious topic in a hateful, insensitive and unproductive way lol' self-hating crap as much as you like, but this is not 'calling out' gay men or the gay community about anything. I'm not sure how you can think it is. And there's nothing even remotely funny about it. Unless maybe you agree with her ignorant view and the way she went about stating her simple-minded opinion on gay men?....

She is not saying "listen people, there's a real danger about the health of gay men that practise unprotected sex and it must be addressed once and for all". She is saying "gay guys are disgusting and probably all have aids, I'd be scared to be a gay guy because I'd die of aids". *It's just an ignorant and disgusting comment directed at gay men and their sex lives, a topic she simply has absolutely no idea about. Not to mention the hypocrisy of her of all people judging other people for their sexual behaviour.

Once again. Lol, indeed.

Look, obviously she's hardly a wordsmith and didn't write a speech with her words carefully chosen, but how many people who don't realize they are beng recorded speak in full and complete sentences when having a conversation with their mates? Give her a break. There's plenty more things that she has said and done to pick on than these cmments she's made with a friend.

But the meaning behind her words were valid.

Gay men on the whole ARE more promiscuous - like grinder, scruff, manhunt gayer squirt etc attest to (this is not the same thing as saying all gay men are promiscuous).

And there IS an epidemic of STIs with large gay male populations as stats from Sydney Melbourne and Brisbane attest to ( Thus is not the same Thing as saying all gay men and infected with stis and have aids).

We have a real problem with safe sex. *It's been 20+ years since HIV reared it's ugly head. *We should've had this thing licked by now, but we continue to have at least one gay man a day getting infected with HIV in this country, and many more people at risk, despite the fact we have the very simple tools to prevent it's infection.

Comparing us with heterosexuals in third world countries with similar HIV infection rates is a cop out because we live in relative luxury compared to them.

A little more reflection on why we are perceived so badly by others might be helpful, so that we can separate the real abuse we have inflicted upon us by homophobic society from the self inflicted wounds.

Otherwise the larger society will continue to think the things that Paris said, but just be smart enough to not hire taxi cabs and say thise things outloud anymore.....

And you are right, STIs are hardly a laying matter, but how else to get across that fact that we can be our own worst enemies?
