A Hong Kong tycoon is desperate for his daughter – who has run off with a woman – to marry a man. How desperate? He’s willing to give a lucky fellow she chooses $65 million dollars.

Property developer Cecil Chao, 76, is perhaps used to buying whatever he wants, but he should learn soon that his 33-year-old daughter Gigi’s heart is not for sale.

Shown in the photo above, she’s coupled up with a woman she married in France earlier this year. They’ve been together seven years.

“Gigi is a very good woman with both talents and looks,” Chao tells the South China Morning Post in a last-ditch effort to find her a man. “She is devoted to her parents, is generous and does volunteer work.”

Chao himself is a bit of a playboy – he once claimed to have romanced over 10,000 women, and is currently seeing a girl in her 20s.

Despite Hong Kong’s traditionally conservative stance on homosexuality, readers of the Morning Post’s website roundly criticised Choa for his embarrassing and manipulative treatment of his daughter, with commenters saying the multi-millionaire sound “get with the times.”

Gigi herself laughed off her dad’s behaviour, saying the idea of a bounty being offered is “quite entertaining.” However, she agreed that Hong Kong was behind the times on LGBT issues.

The readers of the Morning Post agree with her, with 77% answering “no” to the question “Is Hong Kong society tolerant and supportive enough to the LGBT community?”
