Deborah Hutton: The Spin Starts Here

And so it begins.

No sooner had it seemed like high-profile Australian Deborah Hutton would finally publicly confirm that she has been in a seven-year relationship with another woman that the press releases started coming through.

The Nine network and her manager, Harry M Miller, have released a statement about the “vicious rumour and speculation” about Hutton being a lesbian.

“Deborah Hutton continues to be one of Australia’s most admired and respected women in the media,’’ the statement said yesterday.

“It is with great sadness and disappointment that such an admired person as Deborah has become the target of vicious rumour and speculation in regards to her private life. The devastating loss this week of her brother Rod has further fuelled this distress.”

The statement said that she would not comment on her personal life. “Deborah Hutton has not in the past, nor will she in the future, be held to ransom to comment on her private life.”

Rather than watering down the incident, the obviously protective statement from Miller (he was Hutton’s partner for a decade) has added fuel to the speculation.

It must be a difficult week for Hutton with the death of her brother, and our thoughts do go out to her, but we also wonder if the celebrity closet is starting to get just a little bit crowded these days.

why is it now, when she is going through a very difficult
period of her life, that this comes out. while i do believe she
is gay, now is not the time to pressure her to come out. give
her time and let her do it when shes ready
