The DIVA Awards Shine Bright

The most glamorous night on the drag calendar took place last night when the DIVA Awards honoring the Australian drag industry were held in Sydney.

Attracting a full house at the Randwick Race Course, the decked out hall was full of stretched gold spandex, hot glue and sparkles in the theme of DIVA Night Fever. From Diana Ross to Andy Warhol, Annie Lennox to Grace Jones, the real stars of the night were the drag queens and their costumes, with weeks of sewing and litres of make-up going into each outfit.

Following a show-stopping performance by Ashley Swift and company, the party moved onto DCMs for the official Bitch or Boast party, followed by Brunch at Stonewall sometime today for those still standing.

Showgirls’ Choice: Minnie Cooper
Most Popular DJ: Kitty Glitter
Most Popular Male Performer: Ripley Waters
Most Popular Show Cast: The Little Merdrag
Most Popular Venue: Stonewall Hotel
Outstanding Achievement by an Individual: Gem Masters
Outstanding Achievement in Media: Queer Out West
Outstanding DIVA Moment: The Birth of Venus (The Little Merdrag)
