ARIA Nominees Announced

Sneaky Sound System have scooped the pool with a phenomenal six ARIA nominations. John Butler Trio also walked away with five nominations and rock giants Powderfinger and Silverchair tied for third with four nominations each.

This year marks the 21st annual ARIA Awards. Over 1000 industry pundits put their noggins together this year to come up with the final five nominations across 26 categories, with winners (excluding ARIA Artisan Awards and ARIA Fine Arts Awards recipients) to be announced at the 2007 ARIA Awards at Acer Arena in Sydney on Sunday October 28.

This year’s nominees range from local rock icons such as Powderfinger and John Butler Trio to emerging artists like Gotye, Josh Pyke, Kate Miller-Heidke, and Operator Please.

Tickets for the ARIAs go on sale to the general public today – with the first 5 artists for the October show announced as: Silverchair, Powderfinger, John Butler Trio, Missy Higgins and Sneaky Sound System. Rove Mc Manus will return to host this year’s event whilst James Mathison will be reporting from the red carpet and backstage.

Yeah I didn't even realise Christine Anu had gone with a children's album! That's where she's been hiding lol.
Gosh the best group an album of the year awards are gunna be close! So good to see Brissy bands Small Mercies, Powderfinger and singers Kate Miller-Heidke and Katie Noonan up there, as well as Toowoomba girl Gina Jeffries and Caboolture's Keith Urban - woohoo! Go QLD! :D
