Björk To Perform As Part Of Sydney Festival 2008
“You may recall we told you a little while ago that Björk was to be in Australia next year?”:http://www.samesame.com.au/news/local/1238/Björk-Coming-To-Australia.html Well, Sydney Festival have just officially confirmed that one of music’s most wildly imaginative and exuberant performers will be part of their 2008 line up.
Icelandic songstress Björk will be performing for one night only on Sydney Opera House Forecourt on January 23, 2008 and only 5000 tickets will be available. She’ll also be performing as part of next year’s Big Day Out line up.
As inspirational as she is unpredictable, Björk has built an iconic career by consistently breaking new creative ground.
Björk is renowned for her classification-defying music, which retains its experimental edge as well as claiming mass appeal, selling over 15 million albums world-wide and earning numerous awards. From releasing her first album at age 11 and becoming a celebrity in Iceland, her teenage years in post-punk groups such as KUKL, to fronting the successful Icelandic outfit The Sugarcubes, before embarking on a successful solo career, Björk’s musical talent and characteristic voice have created a rich and varied creative output.
Björk has collaborated and experimented with producers, arrangers and musicians, and beyond music, with fashion designers, photographers and filmmakers. In 1999, Björk wrote and produced the musical score for, as well as starred in, Lars von Trier’s Dancer in the Dark. The film debuted at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival, receiving the Palme d’Or as well as Best Actress award for Björk.
In 2007 Björk set Glastonbury alight with her hugely theatrical extravaganza of a show, demonstrating her own brand of contemporary music with her richly varied and hypnotic treasure trove of sounds and melodies.
