A New Manacle? Not On Your Life.
Don’t you just love it? Manacle is moving out of the Taylor Square Hotel venue after this weekend, but the hotel management say they still want to keep things the way they are – just make sure you keep your shirt on.
In an article published today in the Sydney Star Observer, Priscilla Caiza, the hotel marketing manager, said that she wants to try and hang onto what is obviously a very lucrative little enterprise. Unfortunately, she’s completely missed the point.
“We don’t want to change anything, we want to keep the same clientele… they don’t cause a lot of problems and they spend a lot of money,” she told the Star.
Of course, what she doesn’t realise is that the thing that kept people coming back to Manacle time and time again was the bar’s genuine loyalty to the community and the way they looked after their regulars. To Priscilla, the community is little more than a low maintenance cash cow, and without that loyalty there, it won’t take long for it to become an extension of T2.
“I’ll keep the same DJs, the same atmosphere, the same lighting, the same décor, the leather orientated features will be the same,” she said.
I am completely unconvinced, especially considering the president of the Harbour City Bears was told that they’re more than welcome to come to the new bar, so long as they spent plenty of money and kept their shirts on.
Lets hope the current operators of Manacle find a new venue and soon. If the leather and fetish community think they’ll be looked after by this new venue, they’d better think again.
