Countdown To Harbour Party
So, less than two weeks now before Mardi Gras Harbour Party takes over Fleet Steps and Mrs Macquaries Point for the 30th anniversary. Who’s going?
The DJ line up is stellar – Scott Pullen, Kate Monroe, Jayson Forbes, Alex Taylor and GI Jode will be in charge of the tunes.
We’re gonna be frank. This party has faced some big problems the last couple of years. Some people have complained about the poster artwork. Others have complained that Fuzzy are involved, saying that they don’t want to go to a “straight Harbourlife”. It’s been rained on twice, last year it was raided and shut down by the police and now this year we’re having another wet February.
It’s not surprising that many may be in two minds about whether or not to attend.
Of course, Mardi Gras do like a challenge! And there really is nothing else like Harbour Party. Poster artwork and new party name aside, as far as backdrops go, it doesn’t get more spectacular than the Royal Botanic Gardens and Sydney Harbour. No wonder this is the bash that all the internationals head to. While this year they’ve added a cocktail area, this is still very much a dance party. And really, do us spoilt locals ever get tired of looking at that view?
Whilst the forecast for the day is set to be the sultry summer weather we have all been missing of late, New Mardi Gras have announced that the timber dance floor will have a partial overhead cover, so come showers or sunshine you’ll still be able to stay dry.
There’s a lot to be said for this event being back in the control of Mardi Gras. They ran this party back when it was the only event allowed to happen there, now it’s back in their hands. It’s a special, unique event and a truly gorgeous way to celebrate Mardi Gras’ pearl anniversary.
The QEII and the Queen Victoria will also be in town on the night of Harbour Party – two huge queens swanning around in the Harbour – what a spectacle and what perfect timing.
We’ll see you there.
