McMardi Gras?

This year marks the end of Gaydar’s current sponsorship contract with New Mardi Gras. There’s been a great deal of speculation surrounding Mardi Gras’ arrangement with the online hook up giant, and whether it will continue beyond this financial year. An insider however, has revealed that Mardi Gras won’t be renewing the contract after all – instead the new presenting partner of Mardi Gras look set to become none other than McDonalds Australia.

“When it comes to working with the community, McDonalds are looking to broaden their scope,” says the source. “They already donate plenty of cash to community projects, every year they help set up and support thousands of educational, environmental, artistic and sporting programs, they’re looking for a way to include the gay community in that work.”

“We believe we’ve got a responsiblity to give as much back as we can to our local communities – so much so that the idea of ‘giving back’ is an integral part of everything that we do,” says McDonalds. “We love working in the wider community to provide support and encouragement to the people who need it most.”

Mardi Gras are remaining tight lipped about the deal, refusing to confirm or deny. No doubt the injection of cash will be welcomed, but how many people in Sydney’s gay community will want to march in a parade alongside Hamburglar and Ronald McDonald?
