Mr G Going For Gold!
It’s almost Logie time – the winners will be announced at Melbourne’s Crown Casino on Sunday, May 4. At a fancy breakfast at Luna Park this morning TV Week announced that Andrew Denton, Chris Lilley, Adam Hills, Rove McManus, Kate Ritchie, Lisa McCune, Neighbours’ Natalie Blair and All Saints’ John Howard are all in the running for the Gold Logie this year.
Bindi Irwin, of all people, has been nominated in Best New Female Talent category. How disturbing. Magda Szubanski and Chris Lilley are both in the running for the Silver Logie for Most Popular Actor and Actress categories.
Competition will be fierce in the Most Popular Light Entertainment Program category – three of the nominees are from ABC – The Chasers War On Everything, Spicks And Specks and Summer Heights High. Kath & Kim are in there too, along with Ten’s Thank God You’re Here.
ABC’s The Choir Of Hard Knocks is competing for the Logie for Most Popular Factual Program, against Ten’s Bondi Rescue, Seven’s Border Security and RSPCA Animal Rescue and Nine’s RPA. The Choir Of Hard Knocks was formed by former Opera Australia Tenor Jonathon Welch, who was also the keynote speaker at this year’s Mardi Gras launch. The choir is made up of a group of 50 diverse and eclectic individuals who responded to a call to form a community street choir.
