Rock star Henry Rollins expressed his anti-homophobic views in an interview with Sydney Star Observer, articulating his views on same-sex rights to marriage and gay rights as human rights.

Rollins has “publicly [lambasted] institutions and propagators of homophobia” after a defining event happened during his time in military school. According to Rollins, a teacher’s abuse on a gay student led the boy to commit a suicide attempt.

The former Black Flag front man has since hosted a successful Wedrock concert to raise awareness of gay marriage. Although denying that he is gay, Rollins is honest about the rights of the gay community.

“To me it’s just common sense. You come out of the womb and you’re something. You’re straight, you’re gay or you’re lucky,” he told Sydney Star’s Ani Lamont. “You know what you are very soon in your life. So when someone says you can’t love that person, you can’t marry that person I’m like, ‘Really, fuck you!’ Boy, if I was gay I would kick your arse!’”

Henry was last in Australia in January 2006 as part of the Big Day Out. He’s also been hosting his own show, ingeniously entitled The Henry Rollins Show and that’s been screening on cable TV’s Movie Extra.
