Mardi Gras Appoints New Chair

This week after three years in the role, Marcus Bourget stepped down as Chair of New Mardi Gras. The board have appointed his replacement – David Imrie. He was unanimously voted as the new chair a couple of days ago.

Marcus said that he was pleased to lead the organisation at a critical time and enjoyed watching its re-birth.

“I’m most proud of the renewed enthusiasm the community has for Mardi Gras, especially as we saw with the success of this year’s 30th anniversary season,” Marcus said.

“While I’m sad to be leaving the position I’ve enjoyed for the past three years, it’s a good time to hand the reins over. I’d like to thank everyone involved in Mardi Gras for all your support and would like to wish David all the very best as Mardi Gras enters the next phase of her exciting and glamorous life.”

Marcus Bourget will remain on the Board of Directors to transfer knowledge and maintain a high level of involvement with Mardi Gras.

David Imrie, previously a board member and sponsor for Fair Day, went to his first Mardi Gras in 1989. He’s excited to take the position of chair at this time.

“We’re speaking with our friends and supporters about what they loved about this year’s Mardi Gras and how we could do better next year,” David said. “It’s a good time for me to continue this listening process so I can build on our successes. I’m really look forward to working closely with the community and giving back more than ever.”

We congratulate Marcus on his dedication to Mardi Gras over the last three years. The organisation now start working towards their next big event – Sleaze 2008, which will take place Saturday, October 4.
