Chaka Khan Is Coming

Best known for her 1984 cover of Prince’s I Feel For You, the legendary eight time Grammy winner Chaka Khan will soon be hitting our shores. Over her career, which has spanned four decades, Chaka has redefined musical standards and crossed all boundaries.

From her earliest days as a performer with seminal seventies funk band, Rufus, her fans have included the A-list of music business royalty – we’re talking the likes of Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones. It just doesn’t get bigger than that. She contributed to some huge hits with Rufus including Ain’t Nobody, Tell Me Something Good, Masterjam, Sweet Thing, Do You Love What You Feel? and Once You Get Started. The group earned half a dozen gold or platinum albums and two gold singles with Tell Me Something Good and Sweet Thing before Chaka Khan went solo in 1978.

Her debut album Chaka and the disco hit, I’m Every Woman shot to number one on the R&B charts. Her second album, Naughty, featured classics such as Move Me No Mountain and Clouds. Her next album, What Cha’ Gonna Do For Me? went gold and throughout the eighties the success continued.

She hasn’t stopped in the past decade either. She’s been exploring everything from disco to sweet soul and funk-drenched rap and that huge voice of hers is still enjoyed by legions of fans, both old and new.

In addition to that, Chaka will be performing in Melbourne and Sydney with none other than Australia’s own soul diva Marcia Hines. Like Chaka, Marcia’s career has been going strong since the seventies. She came to Australia, from the US, to star in the controversial Hair – the youngest person in the world to score a role in the famous musical. That was 1970. By 1975, she’d starred as Mary in Jesus Christ Superstar and throughout the nineties and beyond the top 40 hits just kept on coming.

Same Same is proud to be the presenting partner of Chaka Khan’s 35th Anniversary Australian Tour.
