Cirque Du Soleil Returning To Sydney
Cirque du Soleil don’t do things by halves. When they visit a city, not only do they bring one of the world’s most spectacular shows, they bring an entire building with them as well.
Construction and preparation for their Grand Chapiteau started at the Entertainment Quarter last month in anticipation for the show’s opening, Thursday, July 17 2008. Between now and then 5,300 tonnes of road metal, 8,500 square metres of bitumen and 750 tonnes of equipment will combine to create the space that will house Dralion.
Created and directed by Guy Caron, Dralion is the fusion of ancient Chinese circus traditions and the avant-garde approach of Cirque du Soleil. The name Dralion is drawn from its two main symbols, the dragon, representing the East, and the lion, representing the West. The cast features a total of 73 artists from 19 countries – including a house troupe of 48 Chinese performers. The show, never before seen in Australia, has been touring the world since April 1999, has been seen by over 7 million spectators.
Due to public demand, Cirque du Soleil are releasing an additional three weeks of performances for Dralion in Sydney, from August 27 to September 14, 2008.
