Billy Is Coming To Town!
After critically acclaimed productions in Sydney and London, Billy Elliot, the hit musical with a score by Elton John, is finally coming to Melbourne. The show is based on the upbeat popular film that tells the story of a Northerner English boy, raised by blue collar parents, who dreams of becoming a dancer, and succeeds. Producer Eric Fellner was thrilled to announce recently that the anticipated musical will play a season at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre from December 30th.
“Billy has now been seen by 2.2 million people worldwide” Mr Fellner said, “and we are very pleased Melbourne audiences will now have the opportunity too.’’
As such, the hunt is officially on later this month to find Melbourne’s Billy, and young actors will soon have the chance to audition to play the world’s most popular boy dancer. Details for the audition are currently on the show’s official website, and you can get them by clicking here.
The Sydney version of Billy Elliot sold more than 400,000 tickets in its six month Capitol Theatre season, and the Broadway version is also set to open in New York in October.
In the meantime, check out these two great clips. The first is a London cast performance on the Graham Norton show. The second is a fun edit of the original film, cut to ‘We Love To Boogie’.
