Sniffer Dogs To Patrol Flinders Street Station
First there were the 2am lockouts that were introduced last month. Now, the Victorian Transit Police and the Safe Streets Taskforce have announced that they’ll be increasing their use of drug detection dogs, in an effort to lower incidents of anti-social behaviour in Melbourne’s CBD.
They’ll have the sniffer dogs out in force at Flinders Street Station on Friday and Saturday nights. There will also be more transit police at train stations at night to manage drunkenness and disorderly behaviour.
The police told Sydney Morning Herald that the dogs are not connected to any success or failure of the lockout trial. It’s just an added measure.
“It’s a bit early to say in relation to the lockout. We will do a review of the lockout at the end of the three-month trial,” said a police spokesperson.
