The Wig In The Box Returns
After the success of 2007’s surprise smash hit musical Hedwig & The Angry Inch, which totally blew audiences away, it was inevitable that the show would return. Showtune, who put together the first Aussie incarnation of the show featuring rock legend iOTA, have just announced that the show will be back in September, with a new man in the leading role.
Melbourne front man Ezekiel Ox from rock band Mammal has been chosen to replace the enigmatic iOTA. They’re pretty big heels to fill, but Ezekiel is no stranger to musical theatre, having performed in shows like Mamma Mia, Shane Warne: The Musical and Tartuffe. He has also been rocking out live for many years, having performed at The Big Day Out and Homebake. He’s even supported acts like Sebastian Bach Cog and legendary rockers Kiss. Ezekiel also performs with hardcore / acoustic outfit Ezekiel Ox and The Fury and is delighted to have snared the role.
The show is remaining true to the first Aussie version by sticking with the same people behind the production but with an all-new cast. Hedwig opened a massive door for iOTA who has gone on to lead roles in Berlin and The Rocky Horror Show which is nearing the end of its run in Sydney and is about to head down to Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre.
