Matthew Mitcham Wins Gold!
In a stunning victory, gay Australian diver Matthew Mitcham executed the highest scoring dive in Olympic history to snatch gold from the Chinese favourite in the 10 metre springboard final at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

It was Mitcham’s final dive, and he scored four perfect 10s to walk away with first place. Mitcham is the first openly gay Australian to go to the Olympics, and now he’s the first openly gay gold medal winner. It is also Australia’s first men’s gold medal in diving since 1924.
Mitcham put his hands over his face and cried after the win. “It’s going to take a while to sink in,” Mitcham said. “My cheeks hurt from smiling. My face hurts from the chlorine. My legs are sore from jumping up and down. I’m in pain and I’m tired. But I’m so happy.”
We couldn’t be any happier for you as well Matt. Congrats!
