The October long weekend is, in Sydney at least, the official start of the Summer partying season. Thousands joined in the celebrations in one of the busiest clubbing weekends on record.

Sleaze Ball at the Entertainment Quarter drew over 5,000 people with the theme of The Villain’s Lair, selling the party out.

There was lots of little touches, including an aerial kidnapping that saw a party guest getting picked up off the dancefloor, giant roaming insects and a hoard of bears turning into strange Hulks.

The weekend masked one of the busiest calenders on record, with events including Action, Extra Dirty, Frisky, DTPM, Homesexual, Indulgence, Parklife, Crash and Rising all making it an extra long weekend for everyone.

im confused as why you ARE trying to intellectualize a dance party?? sleazeball in sydney has existed for a long time.. speaking to a Sydney friend he was convinced it had been going for 20+ years ( almost as long as mardi gras ) .. google is your friend.. here is an article about the sleaze ball 8 years ago.. touches on the themes and ideas behind sleazeball .. http://www.apeculture.com/travel/sleazeball.htm

i have been to sleaze for the past 8yrs. unfort i must say it was the worst one i have attended. we paid $119 for what ??? i honestly cant see how we got value for money ! the music in the horden was terrible and i agree with previous posts. why dont you bring in some internationals to attract the disco lovers - david moralis ? frankie knuckles ? for $119 you would have to be able to afford the quality dj's to play in the venue after putting some $'s into a new sound system with speakers that dont cut in and out and deliver quality sound. yes, prior to attending we knew it was being taken back to a smaller ground cover but to walk in and feel like i was in bunnings in the outdoor section was a little shocking. an annex and plastic outdoor furniture here and there is fine but to try to sit at tables with rubbish, condoms, empty drink bottles and music that can hardly be heard from outside the annex is poor. we understand there are noise restrictions until 7am so why would you use the area ?? people pay ALOT of money to attend a party and its only fair to expect value for money. the annex was tiny and was packed due to people not wanting to be inside due to the poor music being played and speakers cutting in and out there where not enough toilets to cater for the numbers, the toilets under the horden where filthy and more often than not we had to look in several toilets for clear floor space to at least step in to go to the loo. the floors where covered in g bottles, dirty / filthy condoms, no loo paper, drinks, rubbish... it was absolutely terrible and to spend a little on cleaners to come through to 'try' to keep it clean would be great - people should not be forced to go to the toilet in absolute filth. its fine for men as they dont need to really touch the seats but women need to use the facilities and what was provided was terrible. ALL past sleaze parties have at least had enough toilets to cater for the party people and have never been as filthy as there where this weekend. luke leal and jake kilby rocked it outside in the morning and without their great tunes we would have left. will we return - we dont know... we, like MANY flew from interstate and have done so each year and had a ball. loved every minute of it BUT times have changed and we hope the feedback is taken on board. we attended a party at trademark hotel on sunday and it was surprising how many people had the EXACT same thoughts as us. sleaze has been ONE OF THE BEST PARTIES ever and i hope that in the future good music is sought, a decent sound system is delivering rockn tunes and we get value for money as we are more than happy to support the party if we feel we are getting value for money. 1 main show, bears on stage rubbing mud on each other and terrbile tunes, insects walking around doing what ?? the shows last year where fabulous, like past years ! we know that the money was not being spent like past years due to less tickets being released for sale and the party being taken back to a more intimate setting but it didnt work. we understand you can only deliver so much on a lower budget but i honestly hope that the problem areas are addressed and we will be more than happy to continue to support a party that we have classed as our #1 favourite for past years. we count the days till the party and its such a shame that it was not like past years.

The concept of sleaze has respectibility does it? Sleaze is about roleplay & fun, nothing else - the way I've been berated for *intellectualizing* sleaze convinces me of that. You feign insult at the notion that Sleaze is shallow? Of course Sleaze is shallow. Gay guys get shallow once a year at Sleaze. Why is that an insult? You get *shallow* every time you masturbate. same thing with a dance party. Sometimes to be shallow is a self-care need. I never said Sleaze was a bad thing, I'm just fascinated as to why Sleaze means so damn much to the gay guys & lesbians that go and why Sleaze creates a buzz in the community that is only comparable to Mardi Gras. This is priceless! Are forums always this much fun? Are you really looking for a deeper meaning for Sleaze? How do you get through life without stopping to consider the philosophy behind pastries, or the psychology of grocery shopping? My first thought was that this was all some pretentious pose of intellectualism, but I've got my fingers crossed that this isn't some desperate quest to appear holier than the rest of us...

This is priceless! Are forums always this much fun? Are you really looking for a deeper meaning for Sleaze? How do you get through life without stopping to consider the philosophy behind pastries, or the psychology of grocery shopping? My first thought was that this was all some pretentious pose of intellectualism, but I've got my fingers crossed that this isn't some desperate quest to appear holier than the rest of us... Pretty sure its a pretentious quest to appear more intelligent/holier than the rest of us. As HazyinSeptember asked why ? its a dance party which is just for fun. As for the name well why is there Mardi Gras ? the only connection I can see is the Parade like they do in Rio de Janeiro. But no real connection to gay ? but to be honest dont care. Why Toybox ? Why Frisky ? Why DTPm etc etc etc And yes Hazy all you have to do is Google . I found some interviews from ABC and other newspapers from various people on Mardi Gras and Sleaze but just could not be bothered coming back and replying with all the links. Some things in life are just there for fun fun fun and thats all they are , no need to know why its fun , just enjoy it.

there are many public things that the gay community do - sleaze is just one of them. sleaze (used to be) about sex, about sexuality, about expressing that however you wanted... if that's not your thing then that's fine, but there's no reason why you (or anyone else for that matter) should feel threatened by it... we have a very diverse community and it just sounds like you need to adopt a more "live and let live" philosophy, and find out where you fit in... and as for feeling like nobody listens to you here or wants to talk about your opinions, that's not the case at all. of course your opinion is valid... but when it comes across as judgmental and holier than thou, expect a bit of resistance.

yawn. this is such a lame argument. we deserve equal rights AND the right to express our sexuality on OUR TERMS just like everyone else. for every one person at sleaze there are many more who aren't there. we all want different things - just like any other human collective. stop being so conservative. we could all pretend to be virgins and we'd be no better off.

You see? There is a psychology behind Sleaze that affects behaviour. Preparation for Sleaze has a psychology to it. Yes, Sleaze is there for fun and fun is fun because it's fun. But I'm not imagining the status that Sleaze has in Sydney and this is a Sleaze forum. I'm talking about Sleaze. This is my last post here. Thanks. Take care. ok, well that didn't make much sense to me.. but hope you find what your looking for.. try google ! on another topic.. the posts on Pinkboard were actually quite interesting, and while there were some typical pink board crap, a fair amount were quite positive of the event.. they even posted a link to say just how harsh people were being on here.. another thing that's interesting is that New Mardi Gras could not even get enough people for a full comity of volunteers on the board.. perhaps some of the people on here who were so scathing should consider giving their time to make the next party to their liking?

I chose to delete all my posts here because I was getting a reputation for being a fuckwit. Sorry. I'm not going to post here anymore. Thanks. OK cya ! but remember you chose to come on here and stir things with off topic questions. You refused to go make your own thread so that you could converse with others on the same level as you. Surely you must have known the way you posted would get up some peoples noses ? If you are going to create that sort of heat you dont go running just because others have disagreed with you . Again, start your own thread. Hopefully you will then find people posting on it that wish to discuss Sleaze in the way you want.

That's typical of us queers, isn't it? Far easier to stand around and criticise rather than do something positive... Although... one of my friends, without naming names, is more community minded than I am, and decided to get involved. He wasn't very impressed with the energy and enthusiasm on the team and gave it up in th end :(
