What Strummed The Same Same Banjo Last Month?
It’s been a big January here on Same Same, a month of crime and punishment, speculation and scandal, dykes, divas and drama.
In January Grace Jones may have belted out her first Aussie performances in years, however it was Ian Thorpe that had everyone talking, with speculation on the ex-swimmer’s sexuality taking out the top two spots.
The announcement of Mardi Gras’ party line up took out fourth place, while our story looking back over love and loss in 2008 came in at number five.
Punishment was on the agenda last month. Our story about the Judge who basically told a problem teenage driver to behave himself or he’d be raped in prison came in at number six, while the announcement of a hefty sentence for an HIV positive man who was having unprotected sex with others came in at number eight.
Matthew Mitcham’s selection as the 2008 Same Same 25 People’s Choice created a buzz, as did the scandals behind legendary plastic dolls Barbie and Ken. And news that Australia’s red centre is also our lesbian capital came in at number ten.
