Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is just around the corner, and this year Same Same is doing something that’s never been done before – we’re opening up a temporary gay bar that’s only open for the week of Mardi Gras, and then closes down forever.

The Same Same Mardi Bar, presented by Agwa, is open up for just one week, from Sunday March 1 to Friday March 6. Each night of the Mardi Bar is packed with entertainment, theming and DJs that’ll have you with your hands in the air as you revel in the Mardi Gras spirit that’ll infect the city.

Sunday March 1: Opening Night Party
Monday March 2: Same Same Photography Exhibition
Tuesday March 3: Tight-Arse Tuesday (Under 25 get in free)
Wednesday March 4: Agwa Jungle Party
Thursday March 5: International Night (Passports get in free)
Friday March 6: Closing Night Party

The Same Same Mardi Bar is located at 163 Oxford Street in Darlinghurst, right next door to Taylor Square Newsagency at Nevermind – a brand spanking new, cutting-edge venue that’s the perfect location to let loose, meet up, play up and celebrate the electricity that is Oxford Street the week before Mardi Gras.

The best part? Same Same members get free entry, plus first drink free all night every night at the Mardi Bar thanks to our new best friends at Agwa (trust us, they’ll be your new best friends by the end of the week).

The Mardi Bar will be open from 8pm to 3am most nights, and will be hosted by the wonderful Tora Hymen, with special assistance by Summer Salt. The full DJ line-up will be announced over the coming weeks.

I must be confused. I thought Mardi Gras was a month long event, not one week.

Looks like the Mardi Gras has lost it's meaning now and has no other purpose than a dance party preceded by a token street parade. I remember a time when it mardi gras actually stood for something. Those were the days.

Thanks for the invite to the bar but I stay right away from Oxford Street these days.

Erm Mardi Gras runs for 3 weeks.. but then you are too busy crying over something you obviously know nothing about. Try investing some time into finding out would be the best scenario. Alas MG begins this Sunday @ Fair Day officially even tho shows have already started all over town and run right through till the 7th when the party and day clubs close... So that would be 3 weeks.

*sigh* I thought after Sydney Festival in January I'd be able to get back to normal times and not have to struggle through work everyday on minimal sleep and a neverending hangover....then it was extended to February.... now it looks like March will kick off the same way.

as Mardi Gras actually means " fat tuesday" i guess it has actually lost its meaning...
aussiepaul should realise that mardi gras means different things to different people.
