Sunrise Backstage Shenanagans

Sometimes the gayest of moments happen in the most unlikely of places – like the backstage corridors of Channel Seven’s Sunrise program. As far as morning television goes, it’s about as suburban and working class as you can get, so when Manhattan musos Scissor Sisters bumped into the boys from Little Britain backstage it was a surprise for all concerned.

According to Sydney Morning Herald, all was a flurry of hugs and kisses during their impromptu reunion. It’s great timing that both are in town during Mardi Gras time. Little Britain launched the Mardi Gras season on the weekend to a huge crowd, making it one of the most successful launches in years.

Unfortunately the Scissor Sisters won’t be able to be a part of Mardi Gras this year. “We have always wanted to be here for Mardi Gras and there has been talk of us doing a show, maybe some day,” Jake Shears told the Herald. There are rumours circulating that perhaps this will be happening for Mardi Gras’ 30th anniversary next year – although at this stage all fans can do is cross their fingers.

One thing is for sure, the Sisters are revving up the crowds wherever they go with tickets to their Australian tour selling like hotcakes. Their hit I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ has been massive, and was apparently a popular choice for linedancers during this year’s Tamworth Country Music Festival. Jake’s response? “I love that, I am all for that… I have [even] seen videos of senior citizens dancing to Filthy Gorgeous.” Now that I wanna see!

At the end of the day, it’s great to see someone spicing up Sunrise a little – Mel and Kochie certainly need all the help they can get.
