Aurora Show Their Pride
The Aurora Group are getting behind the push to re-invigorate Sydney’s annual Pride Week celebrations. Their annual Aurora Dinner will return to Paddington Town Hall on Saturday June 27, and the theme will be ‘New York, New York’.
“2009 marks the 40th anniversary of [the Stonewall riots in New York City] and commemorating this important milestone is an important part of our plans for this year’s Aurora Dinner,” said Aurora Chairperson Alex Sosnov in a statement. “In fact, the dinner will be held exactly 40 years to the day since the first night of the Stonewall riots.”
Over 400 guests attended last year’s Aurora Dinner, raising over $60,000 for the charity, money that has since gone on to support LGBT community groups.
“It’s glamorous, fun, very social, and features the best in food, wine and entertainment. Of course, for Aurora, this is also our most important fundraiser, and a chance to ensure we can continue to support our community over the next year,” said Sosnov.
The entertainment line up is yet to be announced, but Event Director Anthony Hillis says that the evening’s centrepiece will be a live swing band. Visually, Hillis says that Aurora will “be drawing upon the beautiful art-deco designs of New York City in the early 20th Century… [and] our central focus will be recreating Paddington Town Hall with the look and feel of the legendary Rainbow Room, on the 65th floor at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.”
The 2009 Aurora Dinner will be held at Paddington Town Hall, Saturday 27 June, 6.30pm – 1.00am. Tickets for the 2009 Aurora Dinner are $195, which includes entertainment, cocktails, canapés, three course menu and wines. To book email bookings@auroragroup.com.au or phone 02 8323 4041.
