Sporty Theme For Sleaze

New Mardi Gras have announced that the theme for this year’s Sleaze Ball will be ‘Game On!’ and the event will be headlined by Scissor Sisters touring DJ Sammy Jo.

“We think it’s something that everyone will dress up for, and that after all is what the party is about,” said David Imrie, New Mardi Gras Chair, in a statement. “We know the community will get creative with it, and it will be much more than footy shorts and jock straps – though I’m sure none of the boys will complain if there are a few of those.”

If you’re stuck for costume ideas, Mardi Gras recommend offer the following list to get start the gears turning – “rugby players, roller derby, netball uniforms, martial arts, fencers, matadors, kick boxers, Mexican wrestlers, Turkish wrestlers, jelly wrestlers and surfers.”

New Mardi Gras have confirmed that this year’s Sleaze Ball will be at Entertainment Quarter and it will have more than one venue, due to feedback they received during focus groups about last year’s Sleaze Ball – Villains’ Lair.

“We have taken this on board and will have at least two major venues this year. Multiple venues will allow us to address the feedback we had on last year’s music.”

Which is where Sammy Jo comes in! His unique style of blending electro, house, and dark disco has gained him a strong reputation worldwide. Last in Australia in 2008 for gigs at Brisbane Queer Film Festival and Sydney’s Loose Ends at Phoenix, Sammy Jo spends half of his year travelling the globe, and the other half maintaining residencies at New York City clubs.
