McKenney and Kruger Want A Child

Todd McKenney already has one child and according to an interview with one prominent women’s mag, he wants another – with television co-host and friend Sonia Kruger.

McKenney and Kruger currently work together on television show Dancing With the Stars and co-host a radio program, but the two have been friends since the age of 17, and both starred in Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom.

”[Sonia] doesn’t have any kids of her own and I am desperate to have another,” McKenney told The Australian Women’s Weekly.

While Sonia reportedly hasn’t given a definite yes or no, she did tell the same magazine that she trusted Todd to be a supportive dad and partner. “The thing about Todd is that I know he would be the greatest support to me, which is what you need if you are to go ahead and have children,” said Kruger.

Married in 2003, 43-year old Kruger split from British husband, James Davies, in November last year. It was then, according to Sonia, that Todd took her on a much needed holiday to Bali and floated the baby idea.

“We talked about how difficult it is for women like me, who have a biological clock ticking loudly, and [Todd] was incredibly understanding and supportive. And that’s when he turned to me and offered to father a child for me,” Kruger says.

While Todd told the magazine he doesn’t want to put any pressure on his friend, he says the offer is there and he is serious.

If the pair go ahead with having a child, McKenney’s first child, Charlotte, and the new born will have parents famous for appearing on film, radio, television and in Rushcutters Bay Park.

Oh gawd... I just had a mini vomit. That kid is gonna be VILE.... although sometimes 2 uglies breed a pretty. Maybe thats the idea?

They should go for it - any kid with two people who are gonna love it is doing well! I was totally up for having my long term gay friends baby as we'd always agreed but both times I was seriously up for it, he wasn't quite ready and so now he has missed out since I got knocked up the old fashioned way. You shouldn't take these things for granted! Sonia is only getting less fertile as the years roll by!

Good luck to em. I see a few of you have commented about the looks the child will inherit. Who cares what it looks like? God can't say I have ever seen a cute baby anyway. I was hideous..... look at me now ;)

In the face of gay men & their partners wishing to adopt children, in the face of lesbians struggling for access to IVF programs, you bring up Todd's looks. Do you have to be a Ricky Martin clone to get respect in the gay community or something? A gay man is considering getting his childhood friend pregnant. He's doing a great deed, a wonderful & generous thing to do: to give your friend a child. I don't understand why so many gay men are so quick to put other gay men down at the drop of a hat. All this talk about 'gay pride' on Same Same means bullshit when there seems to be absolutely no support, solidarity, fellowship or respect in the gay community if you don't look like a porn star.

I absolutely agree with Asherbella. I'm unable to have kids so it makes me really angry and upset when people make horrible comments about looks, parenting skills, sexuality, or how the child is made. Here are two beautiful, perfectly healthy happy people who love and respect each other. Her clock is ticking and he has volunteered to be the Dad. What a brilliant idea. Why are people so negative about this process? Spare a thought for those people who can't have kids.
