Thanks to the generosity of a few thousand of you, we raised around $17,000 for charity at the One Way Street Party last Friday night.

The One Way Street Party was a first for Sydney. Put on by SameSame.com.au and Sydney Pride, it involved getting together some of the best gay venues on Oxford Street to come together for one night to raise money for some very worthy Sydney charities.

For one night of the year, people paid $10 for a One Way Street Party wristband on Friday night that got them entry into Oxford Street venues Slide, Colombian, Nevermind, Stonewall, Oxford Hotel and Gilligans. Each venue put on a special night and around 2,000 people came out to celebrate Sydney Pride.

Thanks to the kind donations of everyone who came along, over $17,000 was raised at the One Way Street Party that will be donated directly to Camp Goodtime, the Gay and Lesbian Conselling Service, the Luncheon Club and the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby.

A huge thank you to each of the venues involved in the One Way Street Party – Slide, Colombian, Nevermind, Stonewall, the Oxford, Gilligans and Perfect Day at The Gaff – who added or gave up their usual door charge to help us raise money for charity. And thanks to every single person who came along on Friday night to make it a big night out on the strip.

The One Way Street Party will be back again for Sydney Pride in 2010, bigger, better and even more fun.
