ACON is launching a new, cool campaign for condom use and partnering with popular brands to make the message stick.
Launched today in Sydney’s Martin Place, the Slip It On campaign, with its links to popular brands and products, is meant to take the safe sex message beyond the ‘scene’, according to ACON CEO Stevie Clayton.
“With this campaign we’re trying to make condom use more appealing and get that message into gay men’s homes by cross-promoting safe sex with popular and fashionable brands,” said Clayton in a statement released this morning.
Parading through Martin Place at 8am this morning, teamm8’s safe-sex promoting models caught passing commuters, cheekily handing out bananas to go with their condoms.

“The brand essence of teamm8 is all about the sporting spirit of everyday champions,” teamm8 designer Michal Nicolas says, “safe sex is an essential part of keeping fit and healthy so we see this as an opportunity to add value to our brand.” An international sportswear label, teamm8 is one of many labels ACON is looking to partner with in order to maintain the safe sex message.
“In NSW, the rate of HIV transmission has been relatively stable for over 10 years because most gay men in NSW use condoms most of the time. However, we always need to reinvent our safe sex messages to ensure they remain relevant, engaging and effective,” says Stevie Clayton of ACON’s newest campaign.
Missed the boys this morning? Well, you haven’t completely missed out. ACON’s teamm8 banana boys will be attending Sleaze Ball and Bananas in Cabannas at Ivy Pool. Sleaze Ball attendees will also get the chance to hop in the Slip It On photo booth, with prizes for the best poses.
