Aurora Want To Give You Money
Small grants of up to $5000 are now available for eligible community organisations from the Aurora Group.
Rob McGrory, Aurora’s spokesperson said, “An important part of Aurora’s philosophy of community support is to be able to fund small projects or one-off community services that otherwise would not see the light of day.”
The Aurora Group raises funds through direct giving and through events like the gala Annual Dinner and intimate fine-dining events like Plucked and Fat Tuesday. Overheads are kept extremely low as Aurora has no paid staff and no office premises, so almost all the proceeds from events, as well as all funds from direct donations, are able to be disbursed.
“Aurora has two major beneficiaries – Twenty10 and the Gay and Lesbian Counselling Service, and we have supported over 20 other community organisations and projects through the addition of the small grants program.” said McGrory.
The small grants program is an excellent way to extend Aurora’s support to areas where there is growing community need.
Rob McGrory explained “The small grants program is intended to fund a variety of projects. In the past these have included educational film projects, queer arts, self defence, housing, health and welfare services, community education and youth projects. This year we are interested to hear from eligible projects or organisations that address similar community needs, and also those addressing recent emerging research on mental health and ageing in the LGBT community.”
Applications for the small grants program need to be received by Aurora no later than close of business Friday 20 November. Donations to Aurora can also be made online. More information and application forms can be downloaded from Aurora’s website at www.auroragroup.com.au.
